I went to bed the other night after playing some flag football with my knees throbbing (I have arthritis in both knees) and I began to lament the fact that my best days are behind me. I used to just love athletics and the joy of competing. But here I am in my mid 50's - my knees are shot and other than riding bike or a brisk walk my sporting days are behind me. And I was kind of depressed about that for a day or so.
And then I thought - hey - STOP IT... It's not like you have a terminal illness or something like that - you've got great kids - an amazing wife - a career that is challenging, enjoyable, creative and some day you'll have grandkids to hang out with and family holidays and - HECK!!!! You've got a lotta good days ahead of you Tommy boy... And I guess if we all thought about it - many of our best days are still ahead of us. If we start looking ahead a lot more than we look back we'll see that more often I think!
