Take time with your child(ren) to look at what the pictures of books are telling you. The images tell you a lot about what is happening and give children cues for the words being read. Talking about the images also increases oral language skills which has been found to be an important part of academic success. Pictures in storybooks are important for many reasons and help to bring out the joy of reading.
